Fall 2010 Trends Looked at New York Fashion Week

In spite of all the grizzles and absolute obsession twirling encircling New York Fashion Week, while it blows down feather, there really is nonentity more pleasure than perusing over all the shows at one time. Since fall/winter collections constantly appear to present more prospects for designers to go to a slight infuriated (the layering! the crazed hoods! the plaid!), this term risk-taking was still measured—but in a pleasant way. Preferably of cartoon-like bulk, we got big smooth trousers, and in locality of unwearable textures. We scored luxuriant and luscious velvets and assortment. In deed, some of our chosen themes were, in fact, truly old ones, only this time pinched and suited just enough for us to see their enticement in a new way. So, here they are...the 10 trends we couldn't get enough of—and the designers who got them just accurate.
1. The Sexy Polo-neck
We view this layering vital every time of year, although this time around it was sexy, fascinating, and anything but tedious.

2. Velvety & Velours
While velvety shows up in all the precise images, like it performed at Karen Walker and Thakoon, it causes us speculate wherefore we don't dress it further frequently.

3. Shawls & Ponchos
Moreover little and trimmed or huge and theatrical, the shawl is absolutely our fresh fall concealment of selection.

4. Large Gorgeous Panties
Since longtime fans of Katharine Hepburn panties, we're constantly thrilled when large panties return...and appreciation to Zac Posen and Richard Chai, we've got them in coons.

5. Patchwork
Preferably of impression awkwardly retro, the time of year patchwork approached off with a fresh, nearly touchy vibration.

Fall 2010 Best Models Looks

Christian Dior Armani Prive Chanel haute couture fall 2010 runway looks

Oh, couture. It's the place where the wildest of fashion dreams are realized and, luckily, the most recent Fall 2010 Couture shows didn't disappoint in the least.
Here, a breakdown of the best of the best:

  • It was absolute floral madness over at Christian Dior, where the always over-the-top John Galliano turned his models into literal flowers courtesy of cinched-waist jackets, voluminous tulip-shaped skirts, and overflowing ballgowns dripping in petal-like silk and feathers, along with gravity-defying ponytails wrapped in colored cellophane. If you've ever wondered what it's like to be trapped in a Takashi Murakami pop art-meets-anime painting, we think this will get you pretty close.
  • Celebrity favorite Elie Saab sent plenty of red carpet-worthy gowns down the couture runway, which is likely a preview for what Saab fans like Scarlett Johansson, Marion Cotillard, Sandra Bullock and Kristen Stewart will be wearing next. Lava red, dusty aquamarine and sparkling gold hues ruled the show, as did beautiful beading work, Grecian draping and one-sleeved dresses.
  • At Chanel Haute Couture, Karl Lagerfeld dreamt up a dark fairytale of sorts for the star-studded audience, which included Jessica Alba, Blake Lively, Leighton Meister and newGossip Girl cast member Clémence Poésy. Centered in the middle of the stage was a gargantuan gold lion with its paw resting on a pearl that the models stomped out of, wearing thick high-waisted tweed skirts and cropped bold shoulder jackets with three-quarter sleeves. The latter came in a moody palette of ox blood red, black, taupe and gold and were often heavily embellished and embroidered. The same boxy-up-top, straight-on-the-bottom silhouette ruled throughout the presentation, which ended with models Iris Strubegger andBaptiste Giabiconi, wearing an elaborate lion head, walking hand in hand.
  • What Riccardo Tisci's Givenchy collection lacked in length, it more than made up for in standout pieces. Inspired by the human skeleton, the ten floor-skimming gowns featured intricate bone-shaped beading sewn into see-through white and cream dresses punctuated with feathered and embroidered hems. Bulky strong shouldered coats reminiscent of armor, some made entirely of shaggy hair fringe, topped the delicate dresses, which also came in black and glittering gold -- a hue seen in many of this season's collections.

  • Giorgio Armani didn't continue the futuristic, silver-hued fantasy of that was successful last season (a collection favored by Cate Blanchett, J. Lo, Lady Gaga and Amanda Seyfried). Instead, for his pared-down Fall Armani Privé collection, the designer kept things grounded with clean and minimal silhouettes (embellished by innovative draping techniques) and beaded column dresses in coopery hues.
  • Jean Paul Gaultier also did a 180 from last season, trading in his festive Mexican inspiration from Spring 2010 (complete with couture sombreros) for the more sophisticated idea of Old Hollywood (complete with long stem cigarette holders) this time 'round. The mostly black collection, which had a vaguely surrealist feel, featured plenty of curve-hugging gowns -- one worn down the runway by Dita Von Teese -- that played with proportions in the shoulders and hips. Gaultier also presented his signatures like leather and reconfigured trenches, including an all white trench coat wedding dress finale.
  • Perhaps complaints of a very un-Valentino-like collection last season compelledValentino Couture designers Pier Paolo Piccoli and Maria Grazia Chiuri to inject more of the house's iconic elements -- such as bright red shades, ladylike bows and handmade lace -- into this season's offerings, which focused on sexy-yet-sweet drop-waist babydoll mini-dresses.

Fall 2010 Fashion Trends

Fall 2010 Trend – Velvet

Velvet is the ‘it fabric’ for fall 2010. In general, fashion for fall 2010 is more sensual as opposed to the very loud and theatrical nature of spring 2010 fashion.

One of the designers who stood out for velvet this spring was Alexander Wang, who used beautifully colored velvets in several of his pieces including scarves, tops, bottoms and dresses. Velvet was in nearly half of his ensembles, signaling that it’s a staple for this fall. He showed off velvet in color too. Although there was lots of black, there were also some wine and midnight-blue colored pieces that add an edgy but romantic vibe.

Fall 2010 Trend

Leather bags and dresses with leather touch have always been a part of Fall Collections but a major fashion trend that emerged at Fall 2010 Fashion Show is Velvet Fashion.

Velvet carries a soft touch and complements female body shape with its twists and turns. Velvet dresses were prominent on almost every runway of major Fashion Weeks and is next addition in our Top 5 trends for fall 2010 after metallic dresses.
Alexander Wang presented velvet dresses for women that were awesome and apt for fall. A velvet minidress in deep red color with black lace detailing is perfect for a night out or a prom party.

Nanette Lepore Fall 2010 Collection presented velvet gown that was very feminine. It was carrying a scintillating look and class. Accessorizing a velvet dress with trendy jewelry can be a great idea. Green velvet dress from Giorgio Armani collection was mind blowing. Colored velvet dresses looks perfect on women of every age.

Fall 2010 Trend

Magic of Velvet was not limited to dresses only, this fashion trend for fall 2010 was also prominent in velvet pants for women by Zac Posen. Black velvet dress for women adds a spark to wearer personality. Inspired by Fall 2010 velvet trend shown in Charlotte Ronson velvet dresses and Ralph Lauren Collection, fashion loving girls can go for head to toe velvet attire with a designer handbag for fall 2010.
Velvet, best fancy fabric is going to rock fashion streets in coming season. Reason behind velvet emerging as a major trend for fall 2010 is that it doesn’t poses strong looks as leather dresses and looks stylish as daywear or eveningwear. From velvet gowns to velvet minidress, this lustrous material looks perfect for every occasion.

Graphics are Eye Candy for Fall 2010 Fashion

There is something so utterly fresh about graphic garments for fall 2010! This fashion admirer’s personal favorite was the red and dark tan A-line dress that opened the Marc by Marc Jacobs show. The striking contrast between the colors and sewn on the bias is simply eye candy delight! Marc by Marc Jacobs showed other graphic garments in red, brown and purple. It’s a whole new take on retro!
Oscar De La Renta certainly isn’t the first designer that comes to mind when thinking “graphic,” but he styled several of his looks with super graphic, brightly colored checkered tights that magically came off as subtle. They added a great element of surprise and youth to his classic looks.

Zac Posen designed some must-have graphic dresses with sheer sleeves that are just asking to be worn for fall 2010. Proenza Schouler also had a few graphic pants, including her opening look. Graphic vests, skirts and pants popped up several times in their collection.

Fall 2010 Suits

Don’t get the wrong idea. These are no ordinary suits! They’re not Wall Street, and they’re not stiff, matronly 80s suits either. They’re sexy, surprising and full of energy.

Diane Von Furstenburg (DVF) opened her collection with a beautifully tailored grey suit whose top looked like a bed of flowers had magically fallen over the blazer. Although still a beautifully crafted suit, it’s an entirely new take on business wear.
Personal favorite taken on suits for fall 2010 was Alexander Wang’s revealing sexy black suits with interesting cut outs, velvet and draping techniques. This is definitely not mom’s business suit.

Fall 2010 Suits

One thing I absolutely love to see a woman wear is a pant suit. I’ve never owned one personally, not a matching one any way. Just my own mix and match combos. I was always told that matching your pants to your bottoms was a dated look, and that matchy matchy was tacky. Well not anymore, at least not according to this stand out trend that appeared on the Fall 2010 fashion shows in Paris. Models were definitely sporting this trend full force with a number of designer bringing their innovative new takes on an age old silhouette, and guess what; the tops matched the bottoms!

Designers behind Wayne created a wild splash on their version of a modern interpretation of the pant suit with a funky zebra patterned tight fitting pants, and belted jacket with and angled hem. Ports 1961 took us back to a retro styled suit with a wide metallic hem. What interesting about the Ports suit is that they’ve paired it with flat shoes, adding a quirky and casual feeling to the overall look.
Unique went for an equestrian feel with their pant suit in a tan color and riding boots. The hair is crazy but I love the suit, Bill Maher had a lot to say about this collection lol. Kimberly Ovitz presented this suit which I LOVE. The wide legs completely cover her feet, and the loose fit makes this suit not feel so much like a suit.

Fall 2010 Suits

Calvin Klein keeps it classic but still funky fresh, with a stain suit that would make a statement in the boardroom. The single breasted jacket has an interesting shape with pockets that protrude on either side, and skinny lapels. My only critique would be that this jacket would look better if left open.

Bold Embellishments for Fall 2010 Fashion

One of the marks for fall 2010 fashion will, without a doubt, be embellishment. In spring 2010, there was an emergence of a lot of heavy prints, mixed prints and animal prints. This fall is going to be a lot less “out there” and a lot more fantastical.

A lot of the embellishments on the runway for this fall were shiny and reflective. Isaac Mizrahi sewed on tiny jewels and ornaments onto several of his garments, including tops and pants, which gave the looks almost a pattern feel from far away. Some of the embellishment was also metallic, giving it a sequin feel. It sounds dramatic, but somehow it came across a completely different way from spring 2010 runways.

Fall 2010 Trend – Draping

Draping was everywhere for fall 2010 fashion. It may prove itself to be this season’s greatest emerging trends. Although it was used differently by many designers, its wide usage is unmistakeable. Everyone from Narciso Rodriguez to Halston to Alexander Wang played the draping card, but the greatest and most fantastical draping work of all of the labels without a doubt goes to Rodarte. If Rodarte’s fall 2010 could have a subtitle, it would have been “It’s Draping Done Right.”

Any mention of draping in fall 2010 really would be incomplete without a nod to Narciso Rodriguez for his incredible draping skills. Inside and out, Rodriguez experimented with how to drape fabric beautifully on the female body. From tops to cocktail dresses, in black, white, orange and red, if one is seeking a contemporary take on the greek goddess, look no further than Narciso Rodriguez.

Fall 2010 Trend – Draping

Fashion pros worked hard to make their creations even more flattering for all body shapes. The 2010 Spring draping fashion trend serve as the quintessential means to narrow the chasm between average women and the ready-to-wear collections presented on the catwalk. The floating fabric as well as the relaxed flow of the dresses and tops will offer everyone the chance to camouflage eventual beauty flaws and place into the spotlight the most flattering features.
Draping proved to be one of the ageless and at the same time neglected trends in the last decades. Indeed it managed to enter both the repertoire of wedding dress collections as well as ‘haute couture’ creations. The upcoming season will righteously pay tribute to this tendency that offers a tint of sensuality and romance to both dresses, tops and even pants. The great designers aimed to come up with an alternative to bring these ready-to-wear ensembles closer to the style-conscious public. As one of the most efficient and time-tested methods to accentuate best features and also camouflage eventual bumps and extra-pounds, draping offers not only a remedy for fashion-philes but also a vision-pleasing impression. The season grants us with an overwhelming parade of memorable creations worth looking through.

Fall 2010 Trend – Draping

Christopher Bailey stole the heart of ladies with Burberry Prorsum 2010 collection that celebrates the femininity of fine lines, charming fabrics as well as a candy-coated color palette. The juvenile look is further enriched by the effect of draping. You’ll find this stylish technique on miniskirt, dresses and even tops. The attires are eager to wrap ladies into a soothing and confidence-boosting cover that would emphasize their sculpted silhouette.

Pastel colors paired with charming knots as well as asymmetrical accents all reflect the trademark youthful look of Burberry Prorsum. Moreover the draped dresses follow special patterns that would interlace and run across the whole silhouette into a real opera of foils. The outfits are upgraded with a stylish trench which popularizes another fashion trend of the upcoming warm season.
Givenchy also joined the fight of other fashion titans for the noble cause of furnishing women with a strong reason to be confident and express their sensual side. Fragility in this case is not a flaw since, draped dresses of this collection are the clear representation of finesse and feminine allure. The evening gowns as well as the semi-formal dresses are immortalized with the help of this popular tailoring technique.

Miniskirts in this case immediately shift the attention to the toned legs this way camouflaging all that might seem disproportionate on the upper body. However this section is not neglected either, instead this is the very spot that has the honor to blaze in a soft and noble piece of art. Givenchy manages to dress down the ceremonial and high brow look of draping by adding a jacket as a cover-up. This will turn the style items perfect both for a red carpet as well as rock chic look.

Fall 2010 Trend – Sexy Suits

Fall 2010 Trend – Draping

Michael Kors in his 2010 collection lines up a multitude if popular fashion trends from the shimmery, to pastel colors as well as cut-out and also last but not least drape style. These all add a professional and at the same time creative tint to the complete presentation. The simple mono-colored aspect of the dress as well as the sophisticated quality of the tailoring contribute to the classic ‘noblesse’ of these dresses. Adopting the ideal length and silhouette-stroking fabrics the designer offers a memorable experience to those who decide to sport a similar ensemble. Paired with minimal accessories these draped style items bare the signs of Grecian simplicity and finesse.

Fall 2010 Trend – Sexy Suits

Out the window with stuffy, big shoulder, boxy suits. Suits are back and they’ve never been sexier! These are definitely not matronly 80s suits. They’re revealing, dominating and full of energy. Style dark blazers with interesting blouses or tops with cutouts or other sexy. Also, layer tiny bags or purses for a sexy bondage look. The look is about professional, sexy, on-the-go style.

Fall 2010 Trend – Black

Like every fashion season, colors are transient. There were quite a few “brights,” outfits of super bold red and oranges, but the color of the season is officially-once again-black. Black is the new black, again. In contrast to last spring with its neutrals and barely there look, this fall is going to be all about sexy and dark. This is further highlight through other fabrics used including velvet and metallic fabrics. In some ways, one might even call it goth.

Fall 2010 Trend – Metallic Mayhem

Fall 2010 Trend – Black

Fall 2010 Trend – Metallic Mayhem

For the body conscious women who are itching for more residual over the top fashion but still fall-appropriate styles, look out for the metallic trend. With dresses, skirts and pants in metallic fabrics, garments appear like they were applied in liquid form to bodies. Go basic with the rest of the outfit to let the metallic shine.
